Established in 1535 The Golden Lion was originally a coaching inn. Henry VIII’s saddle was stored in the stables as he was said to have been forbidden from riding. The staircase inside was used by 2nd class citizens if they were allowed in by the owners. Current owners Nigel and Mel have been at The Golden Lion for over a decade with Nigel having been in the pub trade for 30 years. Mel is also a pre-school teacher and Nigel who is originally from Yorkshire is a big Wednesday fan.

There is a large South West facing garden with a children’s play area and sheltered patio. A large parking area is available to the rear of the pub. Dogs and well behaved children are welcome all year round inside and out.
